Rotterdam, the Netherlands – On September 21, 2024, the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) announced a partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to enhance climate-smart agriculture in Northern Nigeria. This initiative aims to improve food security for over 30,000 households in a region heavily impacted by climate change, conflict, and poverty.

The project, part of IFAD’s Value Chain Programme, will introduce sustainable farming practices and advanced technologies. Key goals include training over 54,000 farmers, cultivating 218,000 hectares using climate-resilient methods, and improving access to digital financial services.

Professor Patrick V. Verkooijen, CEO of GCA, highlighted the initiative’s importance in building resilience against climate risks while addressing immediate food security challenges. This collaboration is part of the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program, aimed at scaling climate adaptation across the continent.
