The Nepal Insurance Association has decided to start providing insurance for farmers. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development will give some money to the insurance companies to help with this. They plan to start issuing the insurance policies in June or July. The Secretary-General of the Nepal Insurance Association, Ashok Kumar Khadka, shared this information.
The meeting led by the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr. Beduram Bhusal, confirmed that they will give the necessary funds to the insurance companies quickly. So they have decided to continue issuing the insurance policies starting in June or July.
Since 2012, the Nepalese government has been supporting farmers and agriculture by giving money for agricultural insurance. The Nepal Insurance Association says there is still around 3 billion Nepalese rupees left for agricultural insurance from 2020 onwards. Some insurance companies said they would not provide agricultural insurance from May or June. But if the government doesn’t give the money, the insurance policies will stop again, according to Secretary-General Khadka.
