The Agriculture and Forestry University had successfully conducted a program called “Academic Leaders Sensitization on Basic Administrative and Financial Procedures” for newly appointed campus chiefs. The program, organized by the University’s Continuing Education Center, aims to improve the university’s academic standards.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Dr. Punya Prasad Regmi, inaugurated the three-day program on Saturday. He emphasized the importance of such programs in enhancing academic standards and mentioned that the university operates nine Angik campuses in seven provinces, expanding the scope of administrative areas.
The university currently has only 700 staff members, while it requires around 1,800, according to Prof. Dr. Kalyani Mishra Tripathi, the Chairperson of the University Service Commission. She urged the principals to be cautious while leading the colleges due to the staff shortage. Dr. Mishra emphasized the need to prioritize increasing student enrollment and improving the quality of education at the university. Prof. Dr. Sharda Thapaliya, the University’s Registrar, supported making administrative work more result-oriented.
The program received greetings from Prof. Dr. Arjun Kumar Shrestha, the Dean of the College of Agriculture, and Prof. Dr. Narakaji Gurung, the USAID Agriculture Higher Education Project Team Leader. It covers basic administrative procedures, public procurement management, asset management, existing financial and administrative provisions, and the university’s control system, as informed by Dr. Nirajan Bhattarai, the coordinator and Director of the Continuous Education Center. Dr. Bhattarai stated that the program aims to enhance the financial and administrative capacity of principals who hold leadership roles in educational institutions.
Eight principals from the College of Agriculture, the College of Forestry, and the Angik Colleges are participating in the program. The principal’s term in the university is four years. Established in 2010 AD, the university has approximately 4,500 students enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs.
