Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), located in Rampur, Chitwan, Nepal, has recently partnered with Tuskegee University in the United States to enhance agricultural education. This initiative aims to improve teaching methodologies and research activities at AFU.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has allocated substantial funding for the partnership, totaling approximately 5 million US dollars, equivalent to around 65 crore Nepalese Rupees. This financial support will be crucial in facilitating the establishment and implementation of collaborative programs between the two universities.
The inauguration of the partnership program took place in Saharah, Sauraha, attended by counselor Clinton White from the USAID agency. During the event, Dr. Olga Bolden, the Dean, and Director of Tuskegee University, delivered a speech emphasizing the significance of the collaboration. The speech highlighted the expectations of increasing AFU’s capacity, expanding student enrollment, and raising the standards of knowledge and education.
The partnership between AFU and Tuskegee University is five years, during which various activities and initiatives will initiate. These efforts will strengthen teaching methods, enhance research capabilities, and promote academic exchange between the two institutions. The collaboration expects to have a positive impact on AFU’s development as a new university, with an emphasis on capacity building.
Mr. Punyaprasad Regmi, the Vice-Chancellor of AFU, expressed confidence in the partnership’s potential, acknowledging its importance in the growth and progress of AFU. He stressed the collaboration’s significance in expanding the university’s capacity and establishing it as a leading institution in agriculture and forestry.
USAID’s support for this partnership extends beyond the collaboration between AFU and Tuskegee University. It also includes cooperation with Sadguru Incorporated, a Nepali partner organization, further strengthening the ties between the two countries in agricultural education and development.
