Goat Distribution Program Empowers Chepang Families in Chitwan’s Kalika Municipality

Kalika Municipality, located in the scenic district of Chitwan, has launched an inspiring initiative to uplift the livelihoods of marginalized Chepang families. The municipality has introduced a goat distribution program to empower and support the Chepang community residing in the hilly regions as part of a broader multi-sectoral nutrition initiative. This initiative addresses the nutritional needs of vulnerable populations, particularly pregnant women and young children.

Under the program, Kalika Municipality has successfully distributed 150 goats among 50 Chepang families. Each family has been provided with three goats at subsidized rates, ensuring the program’s benefits are accessible and affordable for all beneficiaries. The distribution process was carried out meticulously in Ward No. 9 and 11 of Kalika Municipality, specifically targeting Chepang families residing in these areas.

Recognizing the challenging nutritional circumstances faced by the Chepang community, Kalika Municipality made a conscious decision to prioritize their needs. Pregnant women and children under two often struggle with limited access to nutritious food, putting them at risk of malnutrition. By focusing on this vulnerable group, Kalika Municipality aims to improve their nutritional status and overall well-being.

To ensure effective implementation, Kalika Municipality collaborated with local organizations. In Ward No. 9, the Sana Kisan Agriculture Cooperative, a local women’s group, facilitated the distribution. This collaboration emphasizes the municipality’s commitment to empowering women and promotes entrepreneurship within the urban area. In line with its objectives, the cooperative seeks to address the risks associated with malnutrition and support the socio-economic development of its members.

This goat distribution program is just one aspect of Kalika Municipality’s long-term commitment to supporting marginalized communities. To support similar initiatives, the municipality has formulated a monthly policy to allocate funds starting from the upcoming fiscal year. This financial assistance will ensure the continuous improvement of livelihoods and nutritional well-being for the Chepang community and other vulnerable populations.

Speaking about the program, the Mayor of Kalika Municipality expressed his satisfaction with the successful implementation of the goat distribution scheme. He emphasized the importance of empowering marginalized communities and creating an inclusive society where everyone can access resources and opportunities for a dignified life.

The goat distribution program initiated by Kalika Municipality is a shining example of its commitment to addressing the socio-economic challenges marginalized Chepang families face in Chitwan. Through the provision of goats, the municipality aims to empower the Chepang community, mitigate nutritional deficiencies, and foster sustainable development. This program is a testament to the municipality’s dedication to creating a brighter and more prosperous future for all residents of Kalika.
