Khairhani Municipality, Chitwan — Breaking the 10 to 5 routine of government jobs, Agriculture Officer Gaurav Neupane has transformed the way farmers access agricultural advice. Joining the municipality two years ago, Neupane noticed a deep gap between agricultural experts and farmers, who often relied on traditional methods or agro-vet shops for disease and pest control.
Using his own resources, he began producing short, simple videos in farmers’ language on crop planning, pest management, storage, and marketing. Posted on the municipality’s Facebook page and YouTube channel Krishika Kura, these videos boosted page followers from 200 to over 22,000, drawing hundreds of farmers annually for direct consultations, up from fewer than 50 before.
His initiatives have reduced excessive pesticide use, cut production costs, and inspired both farmers and technicians. Despite no extra pay, Neupane continues his work, earning praise from officials and educators alike. Khairhani now stands out with its active soil testing lab, organic input distribution model, and a growing reputation as a farmer-friendly municipality.
