The Waste Warriors team, composed entirely of veterinary students and young professionals, has emerged as one of the winners in the Food Loss and Waste category at the prestigious World Food Forum’s Transformative Research Challenge (TRC) 2024. Their innovative proposal, titled “Opportunities and Constraints to Surplus Food Store Implementation,” captured the attention of experts and stakeholders alike.

This project focuses on reshaping global food policies by examining both the opportunities and challenges involved in implementing surplus food stores. With the 10,000$ grant awarded they will be able to delve into a literature review, policy analysis and case studies using a Positive Deviance Model (PDM). The team’s research, centered around global food redistribution policies, aims to offer actionable recommendations for governments worldwide, with a strong emphasis on food and environmental sustainability

The Waste Warriors team includes Dr. Alice Diana, Yara Van Halteren, and Sayed Khan. Their well-deserved victory comes with a grant fund to help turn their vision into reality, contributing to a more sustainable agrifood system.
