Minister Adhikari Calls for Global Investment in Nepal’s Agriculture || Krishi Vines

Rome, Italy – Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ramnath Adhikari, emphasized the importance of investment in Nepal’s agriculture sector during his address at the World Food Forum 2024, held in Rome. Leading a delegation of Ministry officials, Adhikari highlighted Nepal’s strategic focus on sustainable agriculture, food security, and agri-food system transformation.

Speaking at the Forum’s session on investment, Minister Adhikari called on global investors to explore opportunities in Nepal’s agriculture sector, noting that the country has declared the next ten years as the “Agriculture Investment Decade.” He expressed the Nepal government’s commitment to welcoming and facilitating investments in green production, which aligns with the broader global goals of environmental sustainability and food security.

Minister Adhikari also pointed out Nepal’s rich biodiversity, which he said plays a vital role in ensuring the sustainability of the country’s agriculture sector. He urged the global community to view Nepal’s food systems as a model that could offer valuable lessons on integrating traditional practices with modern sustainability efforts.

Praveen Pokharel, the minister’s press coordinator, confirmed that the Nepali delegation included key figures such as Kusum Thapa, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Cooperatives, and Natural Resources, as well as Dr. Shivaraj Adhikari, Vice-Chairperson of the National Planning Commission, and Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha.

The World Food Forum 2024, organized by the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), began on October 14 and concludes today. The Forum has brought together global leaders and stakeholders to discuss and address pressing challenges related to agriculture, food security, and sustainable development.
